Wienberg Demo

Digital Collection Magic with Static Web Technologies

About the Wienberg Demo

CollectionBuilder-CONTENTdm is a template for creating digital collection exhibits on top of existing CONTENTdm repositories. This demo features materials from the Frank B. Robinson Papers documenting Psychiana, a religion popular in the 1930s and 40s.

Visit the full Psychiana Digital Collection (also built with a version of CollectionBuilder) or the Frank B. Robinson Papers finding aid to learn more.

This collection features images, document pdfs, audio, and YouTube video items to demonstrate the range of possibilities using the CollectionBuilder visualizations.

Technical

CollectionBuilder is an open source tool for creating digital collection and exhibit websites that are driven by metadata and powered by modern static web technology. CollectionBuilder is a project of University of Idaho Library’s Digital Initiatives and the University’s Center for Digital Inquiry and Learning (CDIL). It was built following the Lib-STATIC methodology.

This site is built using CollectionBuilder-CDM which utilizes CONTENTdm APIs to create an engaging “skin” on top of an existing digital collection repository.

Software and Tools Used

Powered by the open source static site generator Jekyll and a modern static web stack, it puts collection metadata to work building beautiful sites.

The basic frame work is created using Bootstrap and jQuery.

Metadata visualizations are built using open source libraries such as DataTables, Leafletjs, lightGallery, TimelineJS, FontAwesome, lazysizes, and Lunr.js.

Object metadata is exposed using Schema.org and Open Graph protocol standards.
