DHSI 2026 Reflection
By Evan Williamson | Aug 8, 2026In June 2026, Devin and I taught a week-long course, “Creating Digital Collections with Minimal Infrastructure: Hands On with CollectionBuilder for Teaching and Exhibits”, at Digital Humanities Summer Institute (DHSI). Amazingly, this is our sixth time teaching the course (twice on Zoom, twice at University of Victoria, twice at Université de Montréal). Each iteration and group is a little different and we have really enjoyed the opportunity.
This year’s crew of learners was a great mix, from undergrad to senior faculty, different fields, different institutions, different projects and use cases–a joy to collaborate with everyone, get new questions, and explore new ideas. Everyone was very engaged, doing some amazing trouble shooting, data wrangling, deep thinking, and CollectionBuilder-ing!
Folks created collections exploring perfumes, museum collections, family archives, digital editions, sacred sites, oral histories, and even Pete Seeger. You can explore projects created during the week in the DHSI Show and Tell 2026 collection or checkout the course outline.
